Interesting discussion. I disagree, concern for humanity is coincident, economics is the reason for change. EROI for fossils doesn't add up anymore and the green alternatives are on shaky ground. I think the world is in for a bumpy 2020s!! We are in a race for time to deal with the convergent environmental, demographic ,resource, energy crises of the 2020s. It's most unfortunate that private companies and governments in UK can't work together to establish tidal(reliable) renewables and "green" hydrogen for storage and transport. These are some of the plausible economic/scientific actions that could really turn the tide.

Search who has the most hydroelectric and wind energy.. The irony of the west.. Lol.. The west didn't want to comply on Paris treaty because they don't want release dollars to help developing countries to change to green energy which is in the Paris treaty, when 86% of the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere came from rich countries
The global economy has improved , and green is getting better. ,but unless we learn to consume less as individuals on All products , we need to make things to last longer , and not to Replace things to quickly like cars mobile phones and A host of other products
